While driving through the small town of Millthorpe, on our way home, I noticed that their graveyard looked kinda funky against the rainclouds. The sun was shinning on the headstones, from the opposite direction to the clouds. I couldn't take a picture to capture how cool it looked, but this photo came out pretty neato!

When onions sprout in the fridge, sometimes beyond saving, i don't throw them out. I plant them in the garden, because they have this awesome, tall flower that is about the size of a baseball. I love them!

These are two of our 3 cats. The grey one is Flossy and the ginger one is Mr.Marbles. This photo was taken in Roses room, just 2 days before Mr.Marbles was hit by a car. This is the last photo we have of him.

We had a lovely funeral in the back yard and put some nice things on his grave.

I've had this cactus for 6 years. I didn't even know that it was a flowering cactus. Then this year it flowered and it's awesome! I love it :o)

Spring is awesome! These are new irises i planted the year before last and they didn't flower last year. I kinda thought maybe the bulbs were duds. But then this week they've flowered and they were worth the wait :o)

The top one is much prettier in "reality". It is golder around the edges like the bottom one is mauve.

There was a thunderstorm brewing overhead and a crack appeared in the clouds, letting the sun shine on a bit of cloud. The only bit of sun in the sky, and i wish i had of been able to capture that with a panoramic shot.

Between our town, and a town called Orange [And just this side of Millthorpe], There is a little odd shaped paddock off to the right. The purple flowers are called "Paterson's curse" and they spread like wild fire. Yet they aren't anywhere around this area, except in this paddock. Interesting.

Our Big Date

On Wednesday morning it was snowing, so i took the kids out to a little cafe to have breakfast for something different to do. They didn't know you could go out for breakfast, anywhere other than maccas!
Jason had the big cooked breakfast with a banana milkshake. Rose had a croissant with jam & cream with a caramel milkshake. And i had a bit of quiche with garden salad and some raison toast with a skinny, half strength iced coffee. All that came to $41 and we probably won't do it again for a while at that price. But the kids felt very swish eating out for breaky. it was a nice breakfast with great company, and we'll remember it!

Jason didn't even eat most of that big cooked breakfast, Our chooks did! lol

At my local slimmers club, i'm the secretary, so i sit at a table in the middle of the room with the weigher etc. The other ladies who come to weigh in, sit around the wall.
On this occasion, Jason had to sit behind me, on the floor, where i could keep an eye on him, as he was being a ratbag.

He had bought his micro machines to play with and he lined them up on a womans chair, and even stashed some behind her bum. And she wasn't aware of him playing there at all! That's kinda funny :o)

Fogged In

This is what our town looked like this morning. We are kinda in a basin, and when it gets foggy, it just sits in the basin like a thick blanket. You can see the hills peeking out on the other side. Under that blanket are factories, schools and homes. This pic was taken from "the lookout", the highest place in town. You can see the lookout from the background in the previous post to get an idea of what you aren't seeing.

The kids go to school out of town. As soon as i got out of the basin, it was as clear as day. Looking back, you can see the blanket.

I shoulda added pictures of what it looks like without the fog, so you can see why it's cool enough to take pics. Maybe i'll do that tomorow :o)

This mothers day was stress free and lovely!
I usualy hide the cellotape and special paper etc from the kids. Otherwise they use it all. Then when i want some, there's none there!
Rose and Jason wanted to make a surprise mothers day banner, but they couldn't find any materials [and John wouldn't know where to look!]
So they used computer printer paper to make a banner. Wool to string it together. Band-aids to stick it to the wall. And they made a cactus out of a balloon. How cute is that? :o)

Below is a picture i thought was interesting. The yellow tree standing in front of the red tree makes it look as though orange meets in between. Don't you think?

The photo below is me looking up into the tree. These trees look fantasic because the wood is almost black. And all the leaves turn this pale yellow at once. It's an awesome effect!

This is what the whole tree looks like, but it's colour is more brilliant in the sun.

I thought i'd introduce you to the "Other people" in the Cactus Patch, who make our days enjoyable!

Below is Princess. She is our 4yo Pug, and she rules the roost. She's my walking buddy :o)

Below is the most recent addition to our home, Mr. Marbles He's the trouble maker amoungst the animals. If there's mischief to be had, He's there!
Below is Lotus. He's 11 years old and he has human preferance over all the animals. He kinda keeps to himself. He's not angry in this photo, just trying not to go to sleep lol.

Below is Billy. He's not our cat, He belongs to a nieghbour. But the nieghbour is hardly ever home so we kinda let him hang around when he's lonely. We have to keep him in line though, because he plays a little rough for our cats' liking!

Below is Peppy. She's just over a year old and only just growing out of that kitten stage and into the boring adult stage. She's a very unattractive cat to look at! But we love her :o)

Below is a common afternoon sight. There is Hamtaro, or "Hammers" the guinea pig. And Burny the rabbit. Burny got out of the cage a while ago and we couldn't catch her to get her back in. So we just let her hop around the yard. She doesn't get into much trouble, and she knows there'll be food & water for her near the cage each afternoon. Burny and Mr Marbles are great freinds. They chase each other around the yard, and are never far away from each other in the afternoons.

We have 3 chooks and a bird avery with Zebra finches and Budgies too. I forgot to take photos, but i will at a later date :o)

These ones are so lovely because each flower is a different shade of gradual pinks. I can't grow the plants very big before the frost gets to them. But a vase full of these flowers would look great!

Show & Tell

Today the local show was on at our town. The kids and i decided to participate in it this year. We had a great day with a few winnings too!

Below is Jason & Rose this afternoon. Notice how Rose is 4 years older than Jason, but Jason is taller? Guess who eats their vegies?!? lol

Rose and Jason made creatures out of natural material for that section in the show. Here is Jasons spider...

*And here is Roses Butterfly. Even though the pumkin leaves [or wings] wilted badly, she won second place :o)

* Everyone at the kids school did a poster about something to do with "Harvest".Jason done a picture of the factory where John works. I don't know what that's got to do with harvest, but he had a go :o)

Rose painted a yard with a veggie garden in it. She won a "Highly Commended" award for it :o)

I entered a few of my succulents. The last show i entered some in, i entered some big plants. And keeping them in one piece in the car was nearly impossible! [Especialy as it was in the next town!] So this year i entered smaller ones. I had a few more to add, but i forgot to take them by the deadline [i know, how does one do that?!?]

This one came second place :o)

A View To A Cactus

These are some art projects i've done over the past 6 months or so. Of course they are all cactus related!

The first is a big canvas i painted, approx 4 feet by 3 feet, of an agave leaf. It's detail is a bit more prominent than the pattern really is. It looks more "Arty" that way :o)

I took this picture with my phone and it's not as sharp as i'd like it to be.

Below is our back room between the toilet, the laundry, and the back door. We painted the room bright yellow. All it needed for a finishing touch was...a prickly pear cactus! It's about 5 1/2 feet tall. You can roughly see the size judging from Johns stinky-ass size 13 shoes.

Below is a photo taken while the kids were playing with a big bubble blower. There were bubbles all over the back yard, but the one that stood out was this one. A bubble just sitting on all those prickles??? It looks really pretty! :o)

I collect cactus "things". Anything to do with cactus, so needless to say, eBay is Johns worst nightmare! lol I have collected over the years some clothing tags that have cactus on them. And some cactus stamps from all over the world. [As well as lots of other kitch!]I've also collected tiny picture frames because as a hoarder, i knew i'd have a groovy use for them one day. Over the past few days i've painted the frames and put the cactus tags and some of my fav stamps in them. Then i hung them in the small wall space between Jason & ours room. Don't they just look awesome?!?!

We went to Orange to take the kids out to Pizza Hutt. On the way home i said Jason could sit in the front seat. I sat in the passenger seat behind him. Rose and i were being silly in the back seat and jason was staring at me through the space between the front seat and the head rest on top of the seat. What beautiful eyes he has!

Who Is The Cactus Patch?

Me, CactusFreek. My name is Sharron [Not Sharon, it rhymes with "Sarong"] and i am a stay-at-home mum who is obsessed with cactus! I collect cactus "Things" because we live in a climate that doesn't support a lot of cactus plants. I also run a cactus graphics website and i wear a cactus tattoo :o) I love gardening and most of my garden is succulents.

I work part time as a Mystery Shopper [Something like this] and i have a certificate 3 in childcare.

I'm a loud person who isn't very serious,mature or responsible. But i think i'm kinda fun to be with :o) I'm reliable and i'd do anything for anyone within reason.

I like car stuff, all kinds of music [except rap], thriller movies and messy art/craft stuff. John. John is the king of this castle. He rules the roost and what he says, goes. He's kinda quiet and responsible, sensible and an all 'round good guy! He is a quality control technition and he's very good at his job. He plays those dumb testosterone killing games [the game of the moment is World of Warcraft] and enjoys a beer with his TV [with the occasional foot rub]. He's my big cuddly teddy bear and i'd just die without him! Alix. Alix is my 14yo daughter from my previous marriage. [John and i have been married since Alix was 6] In January this year Alix decided to go and live with her father for 12 months [I call him the sperm doner] because like all teenagers, she didn't like the rules we wanted her to keep.

Alix is a very beautiful soul and i look forward to when we can be united again.

Rose. Rose is also from my previous marriage but John is the only dad she's ever known. She was 1yo when John and i got together. She is 10 now. Rose is the mischevious one who is always good for a laugh! She has an awesome sense of humour and i love having her around. But when she's in a bad mood, look out!

She is little miss socialite who is into fashion and freinds as a major priority. She loves animals and they love her. She has a problem with paper as she's crafty too, and always making or drawing something on her bedroom floor. She's also very messy. Mess just seems to follow her around!

Jason. Jason is the baby in the family at 7 years old. He has a speech delay problem and because of this he tends to get away with a lot more than he should! He is a maths & reading wiz and he can beat any console game he plays! I won't have violent games in the house for the kids to play, but we all like racing each other on Mario Kart etc.
We live in western NSW Australia, and we go to a Life More Abundant church.God is a big part of our lives, and a part of every aspect of our lives.
